The Berkshires have been an aristocratic getaway for generations.  In the late 19th century, a genteel invasion of well-heeled city folk purchased sprawling estates in this corner of Western Massachusetts. Blantyre was one of these magnificent country mansions, modestly referred to as cottages by their owners. Gilded Age millionaires with surnames like Vanderbilt and Morgan flocked here to play gentleman farmer when they got bored of Newport’s coastal scenery. Today, guests at Blantyre may experience a touch of that bygone lifestyle.

What You Need to Know

Built in 1902 to resemble a Scottish castle, this once private residence is now an intimate country hotel that was updated in 2018. Crackling fires, Belgian tapestries, ornate candelabra, stained glass windows, exquisite floral arrangements, and oil paintings in rich gold frames grace the common areas.
