Where are you off to next? Whether it’s exploring the Grand Canyon, taking in the wonders of upstate New York, or cruising down the California coast, here’s how to save on car insurance as you await your next road trip adventure.

1. Do Your Research

Try to get at least three quotes from different insurance companies to ensure you’re getting the best deal on car insurance. Insurance agents and staffers are there to help you and should spend time answering all of your questions. It’s also important to keep in mind that the cheapest plan isn’t necessarily the best plan. You want to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck and that your insurance company is reputable.

2. Compare Insurance Before Buying

While this may sound exhausting or intimidating, there are plenty of (completely free) online tools to help you compare quotes, including insurance comparison site The Zebra. The process itself is simple. Visit the website and enter in your information and coverage needs. From there, The Zebra automatically populates dozens of quotes from 100-plus providers, so that you can compare them all. Think of it as searching online for a rental car. It’s also important to note that The Zebra doesn’t sell car insurance – it compares rates, so you know you’re getting the best deal.

3. Bundle Your Insurance

What does it mean to bundle your insurance? This simply means purchasing your home and car insurance from the same provider. And, according to The Zebra, homeowners that bundle their home and car insurance can save around 10%. Renters can also get in on the fun by saving approximately 5%.

4. Keep Raising And/Or Improving Your Credit Score

Believe it or not, your credit score can help (or even hurt) you when it comes to car insurance premiums – unless you live in California, Hawaii, or Massachusetts. Every time you move up a rating, you can save hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars each year, according to The Zebra.

5. Stay Informed

While car insurance can be complicated, try your best to stay informed and educated. Lack of awareness can end up costing you a lot of money. According to a study conducted by The Zebra, survey respondents who showed a better understanding of insurance terms and coverage ended up paying less than those who were not as informed.
