About the New Norwegian Prima 

Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled details about Norwegian Prima, its newest cruise ship set to debut on September 3, 2022. The first of six ships in its class—and the first in the next generation of vessels by the cruise line since its Breakaway-class launch in 2013—3,215-guest Norwegian Prima will feature the most outdoor deck space and the most expansive accommodations of any Norwegian new build. 

The Design of the Norwegian Prima 

Instead, Norwegian Prima is designed for an elevated cruise experience and features an array of sophisticated new public spaces and outdoor-living concepts appealing to adult cruisers. These include Ocean Boulevard, a 44,000-square-foot walkway/terrace that wraps around deck 8 (and is double the size of The Waterfront on Breakaway-class ships) and Infinity Beach, a pair of infinity pools located on each side of the ship close to the ocean surface. La Terrazza will be another open-air lounge offering forward-facing ocean views.

“We innovated with purpose and created Norwegian Prima to push the boundaries of conventional cruising, offering our guests more wide-open spaces, thoughtful art and design, and world-class service, which places our guests at the heart of it all,” said Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Photo-ops will be hard to resist on two new Oceanwalk glass-bridges and within The Concourse, an outdoor sculpture garden featuring an art wall by David Harber and six immersive installations by Alexander Krivosheiw, designed to create visual effects as the sun sets.  

Dining Options on the Norwegian Prima 

Open-air dining has been expanded, too. Norwegian is introducing Indulge Food Hall as part of the Ocean Boulevard experience. The open-air international marketplace will offer menu items from 11 venues—including new concepts Seaside Rotisserie (rotisserie-cooked dishes), Nudl (noodle dishes from around the world), Tamara (Indian cuisine), The Latin Quarter (classic Latin cuisine with a twist), Tapas Food Truck (elevated Spanish-inspired street food), Garden Kitchen (custom salads), Just Desserts (classic dessert favorites), and Just Ice Cream (guest-favorite ice cream flavors)—and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Also facing Ocean Boulevard will be popular Norwegian dining venues Onda by Scarpetta, Los Lobos, and The Local Bar & Grill. 

Layout of the Norwegian Prima 

Currently under construction by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, Norwegian Prima (prima means “first” in Italian) will feature an elevated ship-within-a-ship concept for The Haven. Designed by celebrated Italian designer Piero Lissoni, it will have 107 suites spanning eight decks and for the first time be located aft on the ship. The Haven Courtyard has been moved outdoors and will become the Haven Sundeck featuring an infinity pool overlooking the ship’s wake and an outdoor spa with a glass-walled sauna and cold room.

Staterooms on the Norwegian Prima 

Passengers who book a stateroom or suite throughout the rest of the ship will also notice some upgrades. Norwegian Prima will feature the cruise line’s largest-ever inside, oceanview, and balcony staterooms, including the Brand’s largest-ever bathrooms and showers for standard stateroom categories.

When Will the the Norwegian Prima Debut? 

Norwegian Prima is scheduled to debut on September 3, 2022 in Northern Europe, sailing a series of eight-day voyages from Amsterdam and Copenhagen before a transatlantic voyage. The ship will then sail a series of Bermuda and Caribbean voyages from New York, Galveston, and Miami before homeporting in Port Canaveral for 15 roundtrip Western Caribbean voyages.
